We were planning a little New York getaway before a pre-Christmas cruise and happened upon this little gem in what I think New Yorkers would call mid-town; close to Times Square, Broadway, Rockefeller Plaza, Central Park, the cruise terminal and much more. Moderne Hotel is about 5min walking from the 57th St subway station between Broadway and 8th Ave.
The friendly and smiling staff at reception greeted us like expected and welcomed guests. Our key-cards were ready, a couple of signatures for the credit card and we were on our way to - shock and awe - a huge room! Who's heard of that in New York even at twice the price. Deluxe king-size bed, sofa, work-desk, comfortable seating, immaculate bathroom, safe for passports, bathrobe, umbrella, all the comforts.
No in-house dining but not a problem. The friendly staff guided us to two breakfast options on the same block; one a "traditional" New York diner and the other a 'moderne' Euro-style bakery café with full breakfast menu; both with excellent service and food. Also on the same block, a 24-hr convenience market with quality prepared meals, fruit, baked goods and coffee for take-out. Restaurant options in the area are too numerous and varied to describe here.
Departure was smooth and speedy with staff offering a choice of late check-out or storage for our luggage until we could move on to the port and our cruise ship. We chose the latter and staff were ready for us when we returned for our bags.
Moderne Hotel was a true gem that got our vacation off to a great start. We'll be back if the price hasn't doubled, and maybe even if it has.
My husband and I got upgraded to a king suite upon arrival and were able to store our luggage upon check in and check out. The room was clean and comfortable. Despite being street facing and right by the elevator it was incredibly quiet. The bed was comfy and the amenities were plentiful. Francesca facilitated a smooth checkin and was very sweet. Every staff member we encountered was incredibly kind and helpful. Special shout-out to their doorman for always providing recommendations and being just delightful to encounter. Can’t beat the location and the prices are a steal for the area. We’ll definitely be staying here for future trips to NYC.
The Moderne is a great find in the heart of Hell's Kitchen! Located on 55th (between 7th and 8th Ave.) you are close to everything. Subway, Central Park, bars, restaurants, TS, theaters, and more! I went this past weekend and it was my 4th stay at this hotel. I had friends that stayed as well (for their first time) and they really enjoyed it. They had a single room and we had a double. Unless you are going to live in the room (and why would you??), it's exactly the space you need. Staff is friendly, it's clean, and the beds are really comfy! I love the artsy hallways!! I like to read reviews and some people just sound crazy for the things they are critical of. So just letting you know this one is a great find!! Enjoy your stay and have fun in NYC!!
Had a lovely stay at the Moderne. Were in town to visit with friends from England. Our room was warm, comfortable, very clean. The staff was friendly and efficient. Would definitely stay again!
Our stay at the Moderne Hotel greatly exceeded our expectations. The room was very clean and met all of our needs. The beds were very comfortable and the room was spacious (for New York standards). The staff went above and beyond to help us throughout our stay. For example, the lobby staff helped us with our stroller during every time we had to enter or exit the hotel. They even stored the stroller in the basement of the hotel so we didn't have to keep it in our room. The lobby staff helped us check-in and out - even helped us unload our car. We were grateful for how much work they put into making us feel at home.
The hotel is centrally located to Broadway, Times Square, Central Park and Rockefeller Centre. We only took the subway on days where we explored lower Manhattan. Otherwise, we were able to walk EVERYWHERE. There are wonderful restaurants on the same block as the hotel - including a diner for breakfast, as well as international cuisine (Italian, Mexican, pub fare, Indian, Japanese, Thai) within STEPS of the hotel. There is also a small supermarket two steps from the hotel to pick up fruit, milk, coffee etc.
We had everything we needed right there and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else when we come back!
The location is awesome! Just a few blocks from Central Park and Times Square. Front desk and luggage staff were so nice. We had complementary water bottles daily and we were able to store our luggage before the airport so we could go out and explore more. There is a grocery store at the corner so that makes it nice to go grab a quick bite. It worked for what we needed. The bedroom was good sized even though the bed was a little hard. The room and hotel were great for us. We will stay again. Thank you for a great stay. Highly recommend for a clean room, rain shower head, and a perfect location.
